Eligibility Criteria

Introduction:
In Maharashtra, the eligibility criteria for obtaining a gun license are governed by the Arms Act, 1959, and the Arms Rules, 2016. To apply for a firearm license, an individual must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: The applicant must be at least 21 years old.
  • Citizenship: The applicant must be an Indian citizen
  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen A valid reason for acquiring a firearm must be provided, such as self-defense, sports shooting, or professional requirements.
  • Background Verification: The applicant must undergo a thorough background check, including verification of criminal records and assessment of mental health.
  • Character References:Submission of character certificates from responsible citizens in the applicant's locality is required.
  • Physical Fitness: A physical fitness certificate must be provided to ensure the applicant is capable of handling a firearm safely.
  • Educational Qualifications:Proof of educational qualifications should be submitted, including self-attested copies of certificates.
  • Proof of Age: Documents such as a birth certificate or school leaving certificate are necessary to verify the applicant's age.
  • Financial Status:Copies of the last three years' Income Tax Returns or assessment orders are required to assess the applicant's financial stability.
